Omikujis – Your Traditional Japanese Fortune Telling
Omikujis (おみくじ) are small divinatory papers randomly drawn from temples and shrines in Japan. Each one reveals a prediction of fortune, ranging from great blessing ( Daikichi ) to temporary misfortune, accompanied by practical advice to guide your daily life.
An ancestral ritual
Traditionally, Japanese people draw an omikuji when visiting temples, especially at New Year's, to know the tone of the coming year. It is a time of reflection, hope and spiritual connection . According to custom, if the omen is favorable, the paper is kept. If he is less happy, he is tied to a branch or a rope of the sanctuary in order to ward off bad luck.
