UsageInstructions & Care
Recommended Use
Fill the box with your loose leaf tea, avoiding packing the leaves tightly. The double lid works in two stages: the inner lid creates a first barrier against air and moisture, while the domed outer lid adds extra protection and provides a Victorian aesthetic. Store the box in a closed cupboard, away from direct light and heat sources. This box is suitable for all types of loose leaf teas.
Care Instructions
Daily Cleaning: Wipe the inside with a dry, clean cloth to remove leaf residues without introducing moisture.
Deep Cleaning: Wash by hand with warm soapy water, dry immediately and thoroughly before reuse to prevent oxidation.
Precautions: Avoid the dishwasher as it may damage the coating and color of the metal. Never let water stagnate inside.
Compatibility
This box accepts all types of loose leaf teas: green, black, white, oolong, pu-erh, and herbal infusions. The 100 g capacity corresponds approximately to 50 cups depending on the type of tea. Voluminous leaves like some white teas will fill the space more than compact teas.
QualityMaterials & Expertise
Selected Materials
Tinplate combines a thin layer of steel coated with tin, making it lightweight, durable, and suitable for food contact. This opaque material completely blocks light, the primary enemy of tea aromas. It resists ambient temperature changes and does not transfer any unwanted odors to the leaves. The metal also provides mechanical protection against shocks during storage or transport.
Manufacturing Process
Victorian tin boxes are stamped and then assembled by mechanical crimping. The exterior coating is applied to ensure durability and scratch resistance. The Victorian style is characterized by its distinctive domed lid, a legacy of 19th-century British packaging techniques. Each box undergoes visual inspection before distribution.

BenefitsWhy Choose This Accessory
Key Features
Optimal protection: The double lid limits exposure to air, moisture, and external odors, three major factors in aroma degradation. Leaves stay fresher longer than in bags or simple packaging.
Total opacity: The metal blocks 100% of light, protecting aromatic and antioxidant compounds sensitive to photodegradation. Green and white teas especially benefit from this protection.
Practical size: Compact dimensions allow easy storage in standard cupboards. The 100 g capacity corresponds to about one month of regular consumption for a daily tea drinker.
Recommended Uses
Ideal for storing your daily-use tea in the kitchen. The 100 g size suits teas you consume regularly, allowing frequent stock renewal. Use multiple boxes to separate different types of tea and avoid aroma transfer between varieties with distinct scent profiles. The white and black colors blend discreetly with all decor styles.
FAQFrequently Asked Questions
UsageHow to use this box for the first time?
Before first use, rinse the inside with warm water without soap, then dry completely with a clean cloth. Leave the box open for a few hours to eliminate any residual manufacturing odors. Then, transfer your tea directly from its original packaging. If you keep the supplier’s label with preparation information, slip it inside or stick it on the outside bottom of the box. Close both lids, ensuring the inner lid is properly pressed down before placing the outer lid.
Care InstructionsIs it dishwasher safe?
Dishwasher use is not recommended for this tin box. High-temperature wash cycles and harsh detergents can damage the exterior coating, cause discoloration, and promote metal oxidation. Prefer hand washing with warm water and mild soap, followed by immediate and thorough drying. For regular maintenance, simply wipe with a dry cloth. A deep cleaning every three months is recommended when renewing the tea.
CompatibilityWhat types of tea can I use it with?
This box is suitable for all loose teas: Japanese and Chinese green teas, orthodox black teas, white teas with large leaves, semi-oxidized oolongs, young or aged pu-erh, rooibos, and herbal infusions. Capacity varies depending on leaf density: about 100 g for rolled black teas, 80 g for bulky green teas, or 120 g for compact blends. Strongly scented teas may leave olfactory traces; consider dedicating one box per aromatic family if you alternate between plain and flavored teas.
DurabilityHow long does this box last?
A well-maintained tinplate box can last several years or even decades. The metal does not degrade over time if kept dry. The main wear factors are residual moisture after washing, which can cause rust, and impacts that can deform the lid or dent the body. To maximize lifespan, always dry completely after cleaning, handle carefully, and store in a stable place. If slight oxidation appears, clean with diluted white vinegar, rinse, and dry immediately.
StorageDoes the double lid replace an airtight system?
The double lid offers excellent protection for normal household use but does not guarantee absolute airtightness like a silicone seal. It effectively limits air exchange, slows oxidation, and blocks surrounding odors. For optimal storage, place the box in a dry cupboard at a stable temperature between 15 and 25°C, away from spices, coffee, or cleaning products. Delicate teas like Japanese green teas keep for 6 to 12 months under these conditions, black teas up to 24 months. If you open the box rarely, the tea retains its properties better.
QualityWhat are the advantages of tinplate for tea?
Tinplate combines several ideal properties for tea storage. Its total opacity protects against light that degrades catechins and volatile aromatic compounds. Its rigidity protects fragile leaves from crushing. Unlike plastic, the metal does not absorb odors and does not impart any off-flavors. It withstands normal kitchen temperature variations without deforming. Tinplate is also 100% infinitely recyclable without quality loss, making it a sustainable choice. Finally, its light weight makes daily handling easy while providing a solid feel.
