The Miraculous Flowers of Japan — Cherry Blossom Genmaicha & Spirulina

I dressed a genmaicha from Japan, grown in Miyazaki, with a cherry blossom flavouring, rose petals and a touch of spirulina for colour. The toasted rice in the genmaicha gives it that familiar roundness, warmed here by a floral, spring-like touch.

Steeping timer
Genmaicha is best with a short steep: 1 to 2 minutes at 80-90°C to keep the toasted rice crisp on the palate and avoid bitterness.
The base is a genmaicha from Japan, grown in Miyazaki: green tea paired with toasted brown rice, for that gentle popcorn signature that defines genmaicha.
Cherry blossom, rose and spirulina
I added a natural cherry blossom flavouring, rose petals for the eye and the nose, and a touch of spirulina that enhances the blend's green colour without changing its taste.
CraftThe pairing of toasted and floral
Genmaicha is already a comforting tea by nature, thanks to the toasted rice. The challenge was adding a floral note without erasing that roundness: the cherry blossom stays discreet, in the background, so the genmaicha doesn't turn into a sugary perfume.
Who is it for?
To discover: for anyone who loves classic genmaicha and wants a more floral variation.
For spring: a cup evocative of cherry trees in bloom, to enjoy all year round.
For the evening: a mild green tea, with more measured caffeine than a sencha.

TipsMy brewing protocol
In the cup
I recommend 3 to 4g per 250ml of water at 80-90°C, steeped for just 1 to 2 minutes: the toasted rice and cherry blossom release quickly, and a steep that's too long brings out bitterness.
Second infusion
Genmaicha lends itself well to a second infusion, a little longer (2 to 3 minutes), for a lighter but still fragrant cup.
Little ritual: I serve it in a light-coloured cup, to enjoy the colour enhanced by the spirulina even before the first sip.
FAQFrequently asked questions
OriginWhere does this genmaicha come from?
The base is a genmaicha grown in Miyazaki, Japan, then flavoured with cherry blossom and rose petals.
SpirulinaWhy is there spirulina in a tea?
Here it's used only to intensify the blend's green colour; it doesn't alter the taste of the genmaicha.
CaffeineIs this tea suitable in the evening?
Genmaicha is naturally milder in caffeine than a classic sencha, thanks to the share of toasted rice in the blend.
OrganicIs this blend certified organic?
No, this blend is not certified organic at this time.
